I want to share more thoughtful posts this year, with experiences to which you can possibly relate. And to inspire you in your own life. But my first love is still fashion and style, so I’m not getting rid of the outfit posts! My plan is to mix in the outfits with other, more thought-provoking pieces.

This is one of those outfit posts.

I fell in love with this faux fur coat the second I saw it on the Anthropologie website during the holidays. I went to the store later that day and found it was even better in person. But what really struck me was the way they had styled it on the mannequin. She was looking super casual and cute with cropped jeans, loafers, and a simple sweater.

It inspired me to think of faux fur in a different way. The fluffiness doesn’t have to be reserved for a fun night out, or a dressy look. You can wear it to a weekend brunch, running errands, or even walking the dog. (I fully admit to the latter because faux fur is super warm, and it has been very cold in NYC recently!)

My original intent was to style this coat for a holiday look, but with our move and all the madness leading up to Christmas, it just didn’t happen. Which gave me the opportunity to take a casual approach.

I channeled that Anthro mannequin a bit with the loafers (don’t you just love all the different ways we can be inspired by fashion?) and added one of my favorite new sweaters from J. Crew. I can also see this type of look with a cute pair of sneakers and distressed denim.

It’s just one more way to make the purchases we choose to make go a little further. I’ve become more and more aware of the pieces I have bought in the past that are worn just once or serve a single purpose. I’m now trying to be more thoughtful with the things I buy and make sure they can be worn repeatedly and in different ways.
