It’s been over a week since we returned from our honeymoon in the Maldives and with each passing day I wonder more if it was all a dream. Seriously, this was the most amazing vacation of my life and I still can’t believe it actually happened!
It was really the perfect storm of perfection: our honeymoon, in one of the most beautiful places you can imagine, somewhere neither Marc or I had been before, and coming off one of the toughest years of our lives when we just needed a break. The result was truly an amazing experience!
I will have more on our resort to come, as well as a recap of the Dubai portion of the trip, but I figured fashion was as good of a place to start as any! Yes, this trip was all about spending time with Marc and relaxing in paradise. But obviously (for me at least!) it was also about resort wear and shedding those winter layers for everything summer.
I decided to do something different with my various evening looks. In the past I have always wanted new dresses for each night and would spend both time and money finding the perfect options. Perfect options that I would inevitably not wear again.
So, this time I decided to give Rent the Runway a try. I want to note this post is in no way sponsored by Rent the Runway. We are not working together. I was, however, invited to an event at the end of last year and given a code for a free month of their unlimited service. That is what I used for these honeymoon looks.
What I love about Rent the Runway is the idea of sustainability when it comes to shopping. Instead of spending so much money on fast fashion trends that you won’t wear more than once or twice and possibly end up throwing away, Rent the Runway allows you to get that same type of look, from high-end designers, with no commitment. If you were only going to wear an item once or twice, doesn’t it just make sense to return it for something new, while giving someone else a chance to wear it, too?
Okay, you get the point! I was just really drawn to the idea as I begin to really think of my consumer habits and the environmental effects they have.
Now on to the looks I chose!
My idea of the perfect tropical outfit is a long flowy dress. There’s just something about the freedom and ease that makes me completely feel like I’m on vacation somewhere fabulous! Throw in a beautiful bright color and I’m even more in love.
When I’m back home in New York City I tend to stick to neutrals. But when I’m on vacation all bets are off. So, this canary yellow billowy maxi dress was the perfect way to kick things off.
As you can see from the pictures, it’s very twirlable. So, naturally, I basically twirled my way through the night.
This dress was one of my favorites! In fact, I loved it so much that I ended up purchasing it. That’s another great perk of Rent the Runway. For each item you rent you then have the option of purchasing it at a deep discount. I was able to keep this ba&sh Paris dress for over 75% off retail.
My favorite part of this dress is the open back detailing. Yes, it proved to be a little challenging after three days of tan lines, but it was still totally worth it. This dress also fulfilled my twirling dreams, which really turned into a fashion theme of the trip!
This was like a Grecian goddess in paradise dress—but in purple! The open back and the halter neck came together to create a dress vacation dreams are made of.
Without really planning it we ended up shooting this look in the perfect spot. There was an amazing breeze on the walkway between the water villas and the actual island and the wind played a huge supporting role in the overall effect. This dress was meant to move, and I think we captured that quite well! Or rather, Marc did. I just stood at the right angle!
Have you ever tried Rent the Runway? Or are you curious about how the process works? Let me know in the comments below. And tell me which of these dresses is your favorite!
